Putin claims that Israel has the “right to defend itself” as a war rages

Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the “creation of an independent Palestine state with East Jerusalem as its capital” to resolve the matter, while acknowledging Israel’s right to self-defense in the face of Hamas attacks of “unprecedented brutality,” according to TASS.
In his remarks at the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his country starts “from the postulate that a negotiated solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has no alternatives.”

The goal of the negotiations should be to implement the two-state solution proposed by the UN, which calls for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and the peaceful coexistence of that state with Israel, which, as we have seen, has been subjected to attacks of unprecedented brutality.
