On Thursday, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US counterpart Lloyd Austin had a brief discussion in Jakarta. The topic of discussion was the strategic alliance between India and the US and how to further their joint efforts to create a more safe global community.
Officials claimed that during their conversation outside of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus), Mr. Singh and Mr. Austin talked about how the US and India might work together to strengthen ASEAN’s position as the region’s hub.
Ten-country regional alliance the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, is a significant player in the Indo-Pacific region. The ten-nation ASEAN and its eight conversation partners—India, China, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the US—compose the ADMM-Plus platform. The host nation is Indonesia.
