Know Why We Celebrate Samvidhan Divas on India’s Constitution Day

On November 26, India observes Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas. This year celebrates the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who served as the head of the Constituent Assembly’s drafting committee and was instrumental in the creation of the Constitution. This day was previously known as Law Day, but in 2015, the Indian government renamed it Constitution Day.
In the year 1949, India approved its constitution on November 26. The Constitution became effective on January 26, 1950.

BR Ambedkar, known for fighting for the rights of the oppressed, was the chairman of the committee that finished the draught of the Indian Constitution. The draught had taken 2 years, 11 months, and 17 days to complete.
