Rishi Sunak will attend the Conservative Party conference with one goal in mind: to persuade the British people that he can win the country’s next general election. Many of his own lawmakers are already getting ready for the possibility that he won’t.
The prime minister has been attempting to strengthen his foundation in recent weeks. In an effort to lower expenses for average Britons, he has scaled back green initiatives and even reevaluating the HS2 high-speed train link, the UK’s hallmark infrastructure project.
But according to national polls, he won’t be in charge of Britain following a vote that must be called by January 2025.
