Rishi Sunak’s rapid ascent in contemporary British politics

The second biography of Rishi Sunak, authored by former Conservative Party deputy chairman and treasurer Lord Michael Ashcroft, is soon to be published. Going for Nothing: When Rishi was appointed by Boris Johnson as chancellor of the exchequer, The Rise of Rishi Sunak was published in November 2020. At the time, Ashcroft told me: “Rishi Sunak was one of the most powerful and influential people in a government confronting a national crisis, yet at the beginning of the year, barely anyone outside Westminster and Yorkshire had heard of him. I figured people would be curious to learn more about him and how he rose to such prominence so quickly.
