Union Minister Nitin Gadkari weighed in on the recent farmers’ protests, which have become a major political talking point ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, stating that they are “politically motivated.”
Farmers, riding tractors, gathered at the gates of the national capital in a near-rerun of the 2020 farm protests against three agricultural laws brought by the government. They were responding to a call for “Delhi Chalo” to push for a number of demands, including a legal guarantee for MSP (minimum support price), loan write-offs, and the withdrawal of police cases from previous protests. The protest by the farmers has a political agenda. Over the past two administrations, our government has made numerous choices that have improved the welfare and interests of farmers. The farmers have always had the support of our administration. “I think they’ll vote for us because they won’t be duped,” Nitin Gadkari.
