Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul are vying to lead India in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. According to sources, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, would be rested for India’s forthcoming trip to Sri Lanka, which will include three T20Is and as many ODIs. According to the PTI report, in Rohit’s absence, Pandya, who served as Rohit’s deputy in the T20 World Cup 2024, is in position to become India captain, along with KL Rahul, who led India in the previous ODI series against South Africa in December 2023.
