The colour purple is said to stand for “loyalty, constancy to purpose, unflinching steadfastness to a cause,” according to the National Woman’s Party in the United States. As everyone is aware, purple is the colour of royalty and represents the suffragette’s instinct for independence and dignity as well as the royal blood that flows through her veins. Yet other ideas contend that the colour purple is chosen to symbolise gender equality by fusing the hues pink and blue.
