Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra begins in Ahmedabad; Amit Shah and CM Patel give prayers

The 147th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath began early on July 7 in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city, where a vast crowd gathered along the procession route to pay respect to the god.According to legend, Khalashi community members pull Lord Jagannath’s raths (chariots), as well as those of his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra. As the chariots drove out of the 400-year-old Lord Jagannath temple in Jamalpur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted the’mangla aarti’ while Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel did the ‘pahind vidhi’, the rite of sweeping the route with a golden broom. A senior police officer previously stated that more than 22,000 security people will monitor the event, and some balloon-mounted cameras will also be deployed to keep a watch.
