On Monday, the Scottish National Party (SNP) chose Humza Yousaf as its new leader. Yousaf is the first Muslim and the first person of colour to lead Scotland, a nation of 5.5 million people. Yousaf defeated Kate Forbes, the SNP’s conservative-leaning leader, in an election that exposed the SNP’s divisions while also demonstrating how difficult their mission to keep Scotland out of the United Kingdom will be.
