India’s Independence Day, celebrated on August 15, celebrates the momentous event when the country broke away from British dominion in 1947. This historic event commemorates the sacrifices of freedom warriors who battled valiantly for India’s independence and looks back on the progress accomplished since then. Independence Day is widely commemorated throughout India, with parades, cultural events, and decorations in the national colours of saffron, white, and green. Flags, flowers, and balloons are utilised to decorate public buildings, schools, and houses, while communities gather to celebrate patriotic music, traditional meals, and other festivities. As we commemorate this historic day, we remember our courageous freedom fighters who risked their lives, defied British intimidation, and suffered in prison to put an end to British slavery.
