On April 1, 2024, Gmail, Google’s email service, celebrated its twentieth birthday. Many users believed that the April Fool’s Day launch of Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin was a joke.
At debut, Gmail provided a whopping 1 GB of storage, far more than its rivals. Gmail stands apart thanks to this functionality and its search skills. Gmail has millions of users worldwide and is currently the most popular email service in the world.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai celebrated Gmail on its anniversary and shared reflections on its experience on social media. “Happy birthday, @gmail! You’re 20! Happy that April Fools’ Day hoax wasn’t the case after all,” he wrote.
