Aileen Cannon, the Florida judge assigned to supervise Donald Trump’s confidential documents case, made headlines last year when she ruled in favour of the former U.S. president at a critical stage of the case, only to be overturned on appeal.
Cannon, a member of the conservative Federalist Society, had no experience as a lawyer when Trump nominated him and the U.S. Senate, then governed by Trump’s Republican Party, confirmed him to the federal bench in November 2020.
