Poet by trade, Kumar Vishwas got involved in politics in 2012 with the founding of the Aam Aadmi Party. He currently serves as the party’s national executive. Additionally, he participated in the anti-corruption campaign spearheaded by activist Anna Hazare. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Vishwas faced off against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi but ultimately lost. Along with being a controversial character, he came under fire from his political rivals after a video of him denigrating Imam Hussain and Hindu gods and goddesses went viral. He was also involved in the sting operation that claimed to have included the improper receipt of funds by Vishwas and other AAP leaders.
