S. Jaishankar, India’s minister of external affairs, reiterated his country’s position on Canada’s accusations regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar by emphasising that such actions are not part of India’s “policy”.
India and Canada are embroiled in a diplomatic dispute after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that his country has “credible allegations” that India was involved in the murder of Nijjar on Canadian soil in June.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Council for Foreign Relations in New York, Mr. Jaishankar brought up the issue of organised crime in Canada, particularly how it relates to violent extremism and secessionist forces. The apparent willingness of Canada to tolerate such activities for political reasons also caused him concern.
