A senior US State Department source said on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not make peace in Ukraine until he knows the outcome of the November 2024 US election. This comes amid concerns that a likely victory for US President Donald Trump could undermine Western support for Kyiv.
Trump, who is running for reelection in 2024 and is the leading Republican presidential contender, has been harshly critical of US assistance for Kyiv.
According to a senior source briefing media following a NATO foreign ministers conference in Brussels, the alliance restated its support for Ukraine, despite the fact that a peace agreement in the next year seems doubtful.
