Buddha Purnima is regarded as an auspicious day. This is supposed to be the day Gautama Buddha acquired enlightenment. Other names for the holiday include Buddha Jayanti, Vesak, and Vaishaka. According to northern Indian religions, Lord Buddha is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the ninth incarnation of Lord Krishna.
