On December 8, the renowned actress Sharmila Tagore celebrates her 80th birthday. The National Award-winning actress was born into one of Calcutta’s most powerful families and is a distant relative of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. With her portrayal of Aparna in Satyajit Ray’s 1959 Bengali film Apur Sansar, she made her acting debut at the age of 13. She later became well-known in Hindi cinema after giving a remarkable performance in her 1964 first feature, Kashmir Ki Kali.
