On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that his armed forces would retaliate against a series of strikes on Russia by the Ukrainians, which he perceived as an attempt by Kyiv to sabotage the presidential elections.
This week, Russian border districts were again invaded by pro-Kyiv militias made up of Russians opposed to the Kremlin, and they were the focus of deadly Ukrainian bombardments.
In remarks broadcast live on television, Putin stated, “The enemy’s strikes do not and will not go unpunished” during a meeting with his security council.
