Three Russian sources with knowledge of the conversations told Reuters that the United States rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine to stop the conflict.
The failure of Putin’s strategy marks the start of the third year of the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War Two and highlights the continued distance between the two biggest nuclear powers in the world.
A US source denied that any official communication had taken place and stated that Washington would not participate in negotiations without Ukraine.
