In the first face-to-face China-EU summit in four years, Chinese President Xi Jinping cautioned top EU officials on Thursday that due to their disparate political systems, China and Europe should not see each other as rivals or “engage in confrontation”.
Xi stated that China is prepared to establish the European Union as a major economic and trade partner and to collaborate on science and technology, including artificial intelligence, during a meeting to discuss issues ranging from trade imbalances to Ukraine.
According to state broadcaster CCTV, he asked the EU to “eliminate all kinds of interference” in the bilateral relationship during the discussions held at Beijing’s Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
