In an unexpected turn of events, 180 MPs in Pakistan’s National Assembly on Thursday gave Shehbaz Sharif their “full confidence” in his ability to lead the country. This came amid escalating tensions between the executive branch and the highest judiciary.
The Pakistan Peoples Party’s chairman and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari introduced a motion in the lower house in which he declared that the National Assembly of Pakistan “reposes its full confidence in the leadership of” Prime Minister Sharif.
