In advance of the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, the British government announced on Saturday that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will go to Tokyo this week to sign a new bilateral defence and technology agreement with Japan.
In an effort to encourage investment in Britain during his first trip to Japan since assuming office last October, Sunak will also hold a reception for business executives.
In a news statement, Sunak stated, “I look forward to visiting Japan, a vital economic and defence partner for the UK in the Indo-Pacific.” The new deal and the specifics of the meeting of business leaders were not further discussed by the government.
