Rishi Sunak has argued in favour of allowing Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky to address a massive audience on Saturday during the Eurovision Song Contest, rejecting claims that it will politicise the event.
As the nation works to fend off Russian invaders, the UK is hosting the final on behalf of last year’s champion.According to the spokesman for the prime minister, Mr. Sunak was “disappointed” by the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) decision to deny Mr. Zelensky’s request to speak at the competition because they believed it would be too political.
He said that it was crucial to give the Ukrainian president a chance to speak because the nation was engaged in a struggle for “fundamental” freedoms and principles.
