In an attempt to inject fresh energy into the last three years of his presidency, President Emmanuel Macron announced the resignation of French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on Monday.
Following several days of intense backroom manoeuvring, 34-year-old Education Minister Gabriel Attal was beginning to take the lead in replacing Borne.
Gabriel Attal would be the first openly gay prime minister of France and the country’s youngest-ever if appointed.The presidency issued a statement saying, “Ms. Elisabeth Borne submitted the government’s resignation to the president today, who accepted it.
It made clear that until a new government is named, she and the other ministers would carry out their daily duties.
