According to the Pakistan-based Business Recorder daily, the Pakistani government has detained several civil society activists as well as all of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s top officials, including its chairman Imran Khan, on charges of sedition. According to Business Recorder, it is impossible in any functional democracy to label criticism of a government or its dependent organisations as sedition, the crime of betraying one’s state.
