Sundar Pichai told employees at the Alphabet-owned company to expect more job cuts this year.
According to the report, Pichai stated in the memo that this year’s layoffs were focused on removing layers to simplify execution and increase velocity in some areas.
The move adds to indications that job cuts will continue this year, as businesses look to use artificial intelligence software and automation to reduce workloads.
“These role eliminations are not on the scale of last year’s reductions, and will not affect every team,” Pichai told all employees in a memo.
“We have ambitious goals, and will be investing in our big priorities this year.”
A Google representative confirmed to Reuters that an email was sent to all employees.
