According to several attendees, who spoke to The Hindu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed an all-party delegation on Saturday that imposing President’s Rule in Manipur was not an option and that things will soon return to normal. According to Mr. Shah, 36,000 members of the Central Forces were stationed in the State, which has been plagued by ethnic conflict since May 3, and 1,800 weapons that had been stolen had been restored.
Members of the opposition questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence and sought Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s resignation at the all-party meeting on Manipur, which Mr. Shah presided over.
