In Hinduism, Mahashivratri is celebrated with considerable fanfare. Every year during the month of Phalgun, on the Chaturdashi day of Krishna Paksha, this celebration is held. Devotees present the Shivlinga at Shiva temples with water, milk, curd, Belpatra, Kamalgatta, and other offerings on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The scriptures say that Lord Shiva has a soft spot for Belpatra. Belpatra and water alone are said to be sufficient to appease Lord Shiva if one has nothing more to offer.
